My Rehearsal Dinner Dress

I finished my dress for the rehearsal dinner over the weekend.  I love it!  You may recall that I had originally intended to make a lace mini dress (which I still totally want), but I couldn’t find a doable lace in my price range.  Boo.  So I started digging around in my fabric closet and found this awesome, awesome, awesome silk crepe de chine that I’ve been carrying around with me for years.  They don’t call it the Cadillac of fabrics for nothing, people.  So drapey . . .

I was going for a contemporary look, but it still looks kinda 1940s when I put it on – I guess I just can’t help myself.  I like it best with a belt, but I plan to make one with a little punch of color (and no ugly snaps in the back).  It definitely needs something ’cause my skin is pretty much the same shade as the dress and that belt.  Ugh.  Anyway, I think it’s perfect for our outdoor dinner – and will be great for our honeymoon in Lisbon too.  One more project checked off of my list!  Although now I want to make a belt, so one more project added.

I just found your blog via ruffled and I LOVE IT! I have been toying with the idea of learning to make my own clothes for a while now, and this has convinced me that I should go out and buy a sewing machine right now :)

  • This is AMAZING!! You are so talented! I’ve had a sewing machine for years, but with college and work I’ve never had the time to use it. Hopefully, after my wedding and graduation, I’ll be able to start putting it to good use. =)
